Independent solar report

Sample Hotel Ltd, Naivasha

12 of 12 monthly electricity bills read, plus diesel records. Prepared 18 October 2026.

1. What your bills show

The hotel bought 216,000 kWh from the grid over 12 months, about KES 5.4M at KES 25 per kWh, and burned about 14,000 litres of diesel, about KES 2.9M at KES 210 per litre. Use peaks in March and April and in October and November.

Grid use, thousand kWh per month.

2. The system we suggest

A 120 kWp rooftop system covers about 64% of the grid power the hotel buys today. A 100 kWh battery shifts solar into the evening and cuts generator use by about a third. For a factory or a battery-heavy design, a 7-day load log before final sizing is recommended.

CaseWhat it assumesYearly savingsPayback
CautiousSavings 20% below base (lower output, tariff cuts)KES 3.6M4.3 years
BaseThe assumptions listed in section 5KES 4.5M3.4 years
OptimisticSavings 15% above base (tariff rises, more diesel saved)KES 5.2M3.0 years

3. What it should cost, and the quotes you received

Our independent estimate is KES 15.5M, with a fair range of KES 14.0M to 17.0M. All three quotes fall inside the range.

Installer C is cheapest but excludes roof strengthening and offers the shortest workmanship warranty. Ask C to price the roof works before comparing. Joulio does not rank quotes; the choice is yours.

4. If you want financing

Example only, not an offer. A loan for 70% of the cost (KES 10.8M) over 5 years at 16% costs about KES 3.3M a year. Base-case savings cover that about 1.4 times; the cautious case about 1.1 times.

With your consent, Joulio can send this report and your bills to a licensed bank as an application package.

Impact, if installed

  • About 4,900 litres of diesel saved a year
  • About 13 tonnes of CO2 avoided a year from diesel alone
  • About 139,000 kWh of grid power replaced a year

Kenya's grid is mostly renewable, so most of the climate benefit here comes from replacing diesel. Joulio counts impact only once a system is installed.

6. Next steps

  1. Choose up to two installers for a site visit.
  2. Ask for revised quotes through Joulio, with a reason for any change.
  3. Tell us if you want a financing package sent to a bank.

This report is an indicative estimate to support your decision. It is not an engineering design, a sign-off or financial advice. The installer you choose is responsible for the site survey, final design and installation. Joulio does not sell or install systems, and installer fees never affect how quotes are shown.
